Track Premiere: The Sleights – ‘Black and White’

The Sleights

Colorado Springs-based punk rock stalwarts The Sleights want you to see past the simple black and white. You might remember that we recently featured their video for the single “Earthworms” off their upcoming Atari EP, which is due out this Friday. Now they’ve got another single off that same EP that’s looking to express shades of grey.

Today the band are debuting the single “Black and White,” a melodic punk track with an absolutely killer guitar riff and perfected pop hooks that will stick in your head for days. “Black and White is one of my favorite songs from the last studio session,” says guitarist/vocalist Luke Blanton. “It is actually one of the first riffs I ever wrote when I began playing guitar. I never threw it away over all these years, and I am pretty pumped that it finally made it into a fully realized song. The song deals with the complicated understanding of how the world is usually pretty grey, and most problems and situations are never ‘Black and White.’ I also finally used an EBow on this recording. I have been wanting to do that since I saw James Iha of the Pumpkins blast one into their song ‘Zero’ back in the ’90s. I hope everyone loves it as much as I do!”
