Growing up in New Jersey in the ’90s, Tom Barrett was inspired by the growing indie-rock scene in America to start creating his own music. While he started to gain acclaim as frontman for Jersey-based shoegaze act Overlake, he’s since relocated to Nashville, Tennessee where he’s reinvented himself as a more intimate indie-rock singer-songwriter, getting back to the raw vulnerability that first inspired him.
Now he’s getting ready to release his fourth solo LP, Everywhere We Live, which is out October 4 on Mint 400 Records, a concept album of sorts, but one that Barrett doesn’t insist you listen to in order. “The songs are all pieces of a larger picture, but each one is a snapshot and can stand on its own just fine,” he explains about the upcoming album.
Today, Barrett is debuting the lead single off his new album “Honest Eyes.” With a steady rock beat and an understated acoustic guitar giving off warm, sweet tones, the song stands as a glimmering example everything that makes indie rock beautiful.
