Track Spotlight: Christina Ward – ‘Darkstar’

Christina Ward

Philadelphia based singer-songwriter Christina Ward was influenced by Prince at a young age, which led to her getting her hands on her first guitar at age 13. Learning the guitar by playing along to Led Zeppelin records, Ward developed a strong rock ‘n’ roll pedigree in her influences. Now, she focuses on lo-fi indie pop mixed with folk and absolutely haunting melodies that draw influences from everything from Fugazi to the Pixies to Jimmy Hendrix and so much more.

Today, we’re spotlighting her new single, “Darkstar,” a shimmering track full of gorgeous melodies, stunning vocals, and unique instrumentations to create a song that moves from delicate folk to lush and flourishing indie pop. It’s off her new EP Neon which is out October 11 from Mint 400 Records and Bad Catt Records. “The song is partly about my life as a kid, growing up with a schizophrenic mother,” explains Ward, “and how it’s affected me in my adult life and my own mental health.”
