HEMMMA, the newest musical project of Gustav IX, is a slick, alt-pop project with an outstanding talent for haunting melodies. Today we’re spotlighting their debut single “Pridelems,” a melancholy, introspective pop tune about denial and avoidance of one’s problems.
“The project is called HEMMMA (Swedish for ‘Home’) precisely because I don’t know what the word means,” explains Gustav IX. “Born in Sweden, raised in Australia, honing my craft in New York City. My life has been spread out without a real sense of centre. The song “Pridelems” is about avoiding your problems to the point of no return, seeing the damage that pride can do and the effect that instability had on my life and my relationships.”
