Track Spotlight: Red Telephone – ‘Delay the New Day’

Red Telephone

Cardiff, Wales’ psychedelic darkwave quintet Red Telephone is made up of two sets of brothers alongside their full-time drummer. They mesmerized audiences with their 2023 album Hollowing Out garnering praise from the likes of Clash, BBC 6 Music, and Under The Radar. Now they’re returning with their sophomore effort Delay the New Day which is due out on October 4.

Today, we’re spotlighting their latest single off the new album, which also happens to be the album’s title track, “Delay the New Day.” With haunting synths and dark, echoing vocals, and complex, shifting rhythms, “Delay the New Day” is unsettling and emotional whilst also boasting gorgeous melodies that will become an insatiable earworm.

“It’s about the paranoia, doubt and dissolution that goes with the territory of pushing yourself and trying to carve out a path where you hopefully get to survive on what you love doing,” explain the band about the new album. “Even songs on the album that aren’t directly about this still tie into the theme, for example,  ‘Delay the New Day,’ which is about indulgence and hedonistic distraction at the expense of creating.”
