About You is a unique musical project founded by Max Poscente, which pulls inspiration for songs from stories given to them by their audience. Combining vintage guitars with modern beats, it’s a homespun, unique style that he uses to tell these compelling stories from fans.
Today, About You are debuting the video for their latest single “Farewell to Ghosts” featuring Elliot Skinner, a narrative about being unhoused and finding safety. Blending alt-rock with psychedelic elements and an unbridled energy, the song finds the emotion of someone else’s story and gets it across beautifully.
“A friend from Berklee College of Music sent a story to me where she detailed her houseless journey in Savannah, NC,” explains Poscente about the track, “and how she found more safety with her fellow unhoused community than with the housed. The juxtaposition of where society might stereotype safety vs. the reality of where people on the fringes of society find safety spoke to Elliott and I.”
Bathed in a red light, almost a fog and moving through bizarre imagery, the video creates a perfect, surrealist metaphor for being lost and looking for safety. “After finishing About You’s first music video for ‘MoNa,’ it was clear there was this electric chemistry between myself and the directors (Cyrus Stowe and Marie Marchant),” Poscente says about the video. “We were eager to continue pushing our creative bounds and take advantage of this lightning in a bottle. With a super tight crew of about 10 people, we shot the whole music video in a Williamsburg studio. After some months of magic editing and gorgeous animations by Marie, we arrived at the final product, something we all believe to be a visually stunning representation of the song.”
