Arms Like Roses

On June 6, Double Helix Records released a split seven-inch featuring Her Head’s On Fire and Arms Like Roses. The effort, which was mastered for vinyl by Grammy Award winner Jason Livermore (Rise Against, Descendents) at The Blasting Room, includes the Side A track “Universal” by Her Head’s On Fire, and Side B track “Autobiography” by Arms Like Roses. Order it here.

Today however, the split hits digital streaming platforms and to celebrate, Arms Like Roses share their video for “Autobiography.”

With members spread across Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, New England quintet Arms Like Roses (singer Estelle Angel, guitarists Adam Padilla and Xela Stockmal, drummer Thomas Shreve, and bassist Tom Fisher) play a blend of emo, indie rock, and post-hardcore that alternates between lush beauty and cathartic harshness just like the seasons do in the region they call home.

With a sound harkening back to the ‘90s and early 2000s influenced by acts like Sunny Day Real Estate, mewithoutYou, Circa Survive, and Tigers Jaw, ALR made their debut in 2021with the EP Get Some Sleep; they followed it up the next year with their Chris Teti (TWIABP)-produced first LP Blooming, which saw the band complete several east coast and Midwest tours.

“This is a song about following your own path, no matter what others think,” says Arms Like Roses vocalist Estelle Angel. “It’s basically a love letter to my young, insecure self. As a child, I was led to believe that all of my dreams and aspirations have some sort of expiration date. I know now, that warped view is so far from the truth. No life has a set timeline. What matters most is being your unapologetic self and always following your heart. Every person has a different story to tell.”
