The multi-talented singer, songwriter, rapper, and guitarist Jacob Paul Herring is better known as BabyJake, an artist know for his infectious pop-rock ragers and catchy, innovative rap tracks. In 2019, he earned a gold record and a major label deal with his soulful rap-rock tune “Cigarettes on Patios,” but the pandemic drew a rift between Herring and his label. Thus began the reinvention of BabyJake, during which Herring shed his well-known shag haircut and replaced it with a buzzcut, indicating a turning point in his career and leading him to the release of his upcoming album Beautiful Blue Collar Boy.
Today, BabyJake is debuting his latest single off of the upcoming album, a bouncy pop-rock track with a frenetic energy called “Momma 212.” It’s a song that exudes energy and sees BabyJake hitting his stride in the most confident manner.
“Sometimes you want to ride a gondola in Venice, Italy, kissing the love of your life in one hand, and eating a bite of freshly made gelato in the other,” explains Baby Jake about the new single, “and sometimes you can’t decide whether jumping off a bridge or pushing her off a bridge is a better decision. But I guess that’s love right? NO, in fact, that is LIFE my friends. I write love songs (far too often); I write sad songs (far too often), and for God’s sake, if I wanna write a fucking song about my RAGE AND ANGER within a relationship (and within myself of course) … It should be okay right?
“It’s 9:00 a.m. CT in Nashville, TN, and I still couldn’t exactly tell you how I made ‘Momma 212′ or what it is exactly about. But I can tell you this … If the song doesn’t make you want to throw a chair through the wall and piss off the world just cause … I don’t know what will! Maybe it’s because I’ve always been a bit out of place & an oddball of sorts in all walks of life, but to me the word that comes to mind is revolt. What am I and “Momma 212” revolting against? I don’t fucking know man. The fucking system? The fucking greed? Myself? (Probably more times than not … But isn’t it always a fight against yourself?) Am I a hopeless romantic? I think yes … Definitely yes. Am I the problem? Maybe. Maybe not? Probably.
“I hope you question yourself as much as I question myself, and I hope this song helps you find the answer. No … No, that’s not right … I think we’ll stick with revolting against myself, that seems like a more accurate description of the song’s meaning. That’s probably 90% percent of it. The other 10% … Well, shitty taste in women, ey?””
The video has an electrifying energy as BabyJake, his band, and their friends bounce around on a trampoline to the tune of this hard rockin’ banger. Check out the video below.
