Video Premiere: Bobby Mahoney – ‘Smoke and Drive’

Having shared stages with such big names as Frank Turner, Against Me!, Steve Earle, and Dave Hause, opened for Bon Jovi, and even having gotten the unique opportunity to jam with Bruce Springsteen during multiple Light of Day Music Festivals, Bobby Mahoney has been carving out a name for himself in his local Asbury Park, New Jersey scene and beyond. Now the Jersey boy is back with his latest single “Smoke and Drive,” which is being released today via Wicked Cool Records with a B-side cover of Social Distortion’s “Machine Gun Blues.”

Today,  Mahoney is debuting the video for “Smoke and Drive,” a driving rock song with notes of past pain but an overall sense of joy overriding the whole song. “’Smoke and Drive’ was the title of a demo recording that Matty Carlock sent me last year,” explains Mahoney. “It was drums and guitars, and he had me write a melody and lyrics to the track. ‘Smoke and Drive’ screamed nostalgia to me—driving around with friends in high school/college on highways and single-lane back roads. We had a great time ironing the song and production out with Matty (Carlock) and with Geoff Sanoff in NYC. Mark Masefield (Dave Hause, Will Hoge, Outside The Box) plays keys on the track and a beautiful dimension. We hope it reminds you of that time when … ”
