The band also shared some interesting insights through an interview recently. Check out the entire interview below:

You’ve been away for four years before this return—What did that time apart teach you about yourselves as musicians and as a band?

As a band, we’re always learning! Our good friend Michael joined as lead guitarist, and bringing him in made us rethink the way we write music. From Ashes is a step closer to what we want to sound like collectively, but the adventure is far from over.

From Ashes is your third album—How would you describe its evolution compared to Halls of Rebirth and A Passage Divine?

On Halls of Rebirth, we wrote what felt good and cool. It was quite spontaneous. On A Passage Divine, we just tried to play as heavy as possible. On From Ashes, we’ve tried to incorporate that spontaneous way of writing music which we experienced in Halls of Rebirth, with our new feel and sound. Not overthinking each track and just going with the flow. That is also why the eight tracks are quite different from each other.

This is your second time working with Majestic Mountain Records; what makes that partnership click for Bogwife?

Marco is just a stand-up guy who wants the best for the scene. He is always available and easy to work with. It just feels natural being on MMR!

Were there any tracks on From Ashes that surprised you during the writing or recording—songs that took on a life of their own?

We loved writing “No Church.” It came from a jam and all of us instantly felt it. It was initially named “Sundown.” We all just wanted to have a beer and cruise when listening to that, you know?

What do you hope listeners feel or take away after experiencing the album from start to finish?

We hope that people want to get their boogie on, get some drinks, and have a good time!

Your band name comes from a mythological creature said to haunt the swamps of Northern Europe. How much does Scandinavian folklore still influence your creative direction today?

As a band from northern Jutland, Denmark, we’ve grown up with stories about the bog and from folklore in general, so it’s part of us. But the influence from Scandinavian folklore was strongest on A Passage Divine. The tracks evolved around the mysticism and tales of the bogs in Northern Scandinavian. It is some heavy shit. We encourage everyone to read about it.

There’s a strong natural and cosmic imagery in your music. Do you draw more inspiration from nature, mythology, or the heavy music scene itself?

Thanks, we appreciate that! Heavy music and blues for us is synonymous with nature and an organic and simple way of living. So yeah, we draw inspiration from nature and mythology, but it’s hard to pinpoint exactly why that is so.

Which bands or albums were on heavy rotation for you while making From Ashes?

Slomosa was on rotation for all of us. The Devil and The Almighty Blues, Graveyard and All Them Witches were also great inspiration on From Ashes.
