Video Premiere: Gold Steps – ‘Missing Out’

Gold Steps

Out now via Revival Recordings, this new track from Gold Steps, “Missing Out,” is a serious banger.

Gold Steps are based in Milwaukee, WI and have taken the music world by storm with their unique blend of energy, passion, and unforgettable performances. Their edgy sound and charismatic presence make them a force to be reckoned with in the pop punk genre.

The themes of the song come from vocalist Betty Mauritz’ own experience with depression and that her feelings of being unfulfilled or unproductive stemmed from the impressions she had of others’ accomplishments on social media. “Missing Out” is an aspiration, a hope that she can reach a place of independence, acceptance, and peace. That she, and others, can learn to love themselves.

I hope listeners identify with the tension and frustration built into ‘Missing Out,’ especially those who feel isolated in this world where we are theoretically more connected than ever,” she says. “It was a long journey to bring the song to its final form; the original demo we wrote in Nashville was a bit too upbeat for the feelings I wanted to come across to the listener. Alan (Day, producer) helped reshape the narrative and bring out some of the uneasiness sonically in the verses and bridge, and with those set against the big, defiant chorus, you can really feel the back and forth that describes my experience with the highs and lows of social media.”
