Based in Gravesend, Brooklyn and focused around the husband-and-wife duo of Joseph Milazzo (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Sylvia Herrera (vocals), GreenLady are a rising talent in the New York City modern folk scene with their unique style that channels the spirit of the early ’70s while pulling in diverse elements like psychedelia and classic rock.
Rounding out the band is John LaMacchia (Julie Christmas, Candiria, LaMacchia), whose textured guitars add that needed special touch to the band’s sonic mix. Today, the band are debuting their second single, “Pinelands,” a song with a dark beauty and a psychedelic foreboding that strike a perfect balance in the song. Add to that the trippy black-and-white video for an ethereal experience that transcends music.
“We first went to the Pine Barrens about four years ago and were instantly hooked,” says Milazzo. “It’s one of the strangest and most beautiful forests I’ve ever been in—kind of otherworldly, especially compared to most woods in the Northeast. Every time we go back, we find something new to explore, whether it’s a weird piece of history or just a part of the forest we hadn’t seen yet. That sense of mystery really shaped how we approached the video.”
“We’re both really into horror and folklore, so Pinelands felt like a great chance to blend those worlds,” says Herrera. “I took a lot of visual inspiration from the original Nosferatu and the recent remake—especially how they use shadows so simply but effectively. That kind of old-school visual storytelling still works, and we wanted to bring a bit of that feeling into what we made.”
