Video Premiere: Jason DeVore – ‘Count Me In’

Jason DeVore

Jason DeVore—known the world over as both a prolific solo artist and the dynamic front man of Authority Zero—is sharing his official music video for “Count Me In,” one of the songs from his 2024 full-length solo record, ‘Til The Voice Goes Out, which was released by Double Helix Records, in partnership with SBAM Records and Caffeine Bomb Records.

On a diverse record that flows readily between full-throated bombast and quiet introspection, “Count Me In” falls on the latter part of that spectrum.

“I wrote ‘Count Me In’ during a very rough patch in my life,” reflects Jason DeVore. “It was a time when I was undeniably giving up hope. I felt overwhelmed and just worn out completely from life and the vices in trying to cope with that in general. The song reflects those emotions of trying to snap out of that funk and tell myself, ‘We’re not finished yet; we just have some shit to figure out; stay with me here.’”

To bring the song to life in video form, DeVore once again partnered with director Eric Cannon from Las Vegas-based Illmatic Productions, who previously directed DeVore’s videos for “Turn It Off!” and “I’m On A Beach,” also from ‘Til The Voice Goes Out.

“With the video, I chose to take the direction of making it about the outcasts and the dreamers who people sometimes write off without a second thought,” DeVore explains. “More times than not, those are the individuals who have the most to offer, but they too often aren’t given the opportunity to shine even though they are the ones who ultimately can change the World. By stepping away a bit from what the song was initially written about, it helps highlight that this is a song for the under-appreciated and those who have as a whole felt alone or excluded in life and somewhat ignored. They are the dreamers who should come out of the shadows to make the world a better place.”

Filmed in Las Vegas, the “Count Me In” video features DeVore riding on a bike down the world-famous Fremont Street and performing at the legendary Huntridge Theater, which has been closed since 2004.

“When I told my friend and Earth Skateboards partner, Clay Lake, that I was heading to Las Vegas to shoot this video, he let me know that he was a partner and also friends with the current owners of The Huntridge Theater and told me I should shoot the video there,” says DeVore.  “I immediately jumped at the opportunity, and in the end, it really pulled the whole video together. On top of that, it really added to the storyline given the history of The Huntridge Theater. It has such a rich history musically, and after the ceiling crashed in on it years ago, it shut down for the longest time. Since then, it has been rebuilt, and it’s slowly coming back to life and becoming something of an ultimate success story. It really tied in well with the storyline of what I was trying to project in the video.”

Now, 30 years after starting Authority Zero in Mesa, Arizona, which completely changed the trajectory of his entire life, DeVore has achieved unmistakable wisdom paired with unflappable positivity and an unshakable faith in humanity.

“I’m hoping people will walk away from this video feeling like they can do anything,” says DeVore. “I hope it connects with them to where if they’ve ever felt rejected, disconnected, lonely, and especially not heard, that it will give them the strength to know that they’re not alone, and that they have so much to offer. People need to take chances, keep dreaming, and embrace their weird uniqueness.”

Ever a dreamer and always true to form, DeVore is thankful for the many people who help make his own dreams a reality, including those who helped bring “Count Me In” to life.

“I would love to thank my sister, Heather Hartnett, and niece and nephew, Vivianne and Michael, my dear friend Clay, Talli, Drew, and the many other people who participated in making this video,” says DeVore. “Above all, I want to thank Eric Cannon, the director, and my label, Double Helix!”

“Keep dreaming, friends,” DeVore concludes.
