With power-pop melodies that bring to mind both the post-grunge power-pop bands the likes of the Goo Goo Dolls and the Gin Blossoms and the mid-80s pop-punk bands like The Replacements, Los Angeles’ Jr. Juggernaut are blazing back with an infectious new single ahead of their new record. They’re bursting back onto the scene with their new album Another Big Explosion on August 9, their first release on their new label, Mindpower Records. It’s also their first to feature bassist Noah Green, who comes to the band from fellow LA rockers The Pretty Flowers.
Today, Jr. Juggernaut are debuting the video for their first single off Another Big Explosion called “Everything I Touch.” “Like a predator pausing to consider its prey, ‘Everything I Touch’ is about acknowledging one’s own negative personality traits and how they affect the ones they love,” explains guitarist Mike Williamson, “but stopping shy of making any kind of change for the better. Man is flawed, so let’s dance to this fact with some chugging, catchy guitar rock.”
And dance to it they indeed do with soaring pop melodies that come with a tinge of nostalgia. The video features the band becoming a part of several arcade games in a cheesy-fun adventure set to a gorgeous tune. “This video shoot was a totally fun experience,” explains drummer Wal Rashidi, “being surrounded by a seemingly endless assortment of video games and pinball machines. We connected with a collector of memorabilia from decades past, shot the scenes on his premises, brought in Mike’s son Dillon to star in the video, and enjoyed a day of filming.”
