The band share their thoughts:
“The ghosts of relationships gone are something everyone wrestles with from time to time. There never seems to be any rhyme or reason as to when or why they’ll appear. Some of these phantoms float by peacefully, while others flap around the belfry with a bit more belligerence.
“To set the tone for ‘Haunting,’ we let the monophonic rasp of the saxophone lead the synth strings to make the first statement. The sax is voice-like but not the voice and so not bound to words in the same way voices can be. Once we’re in the song, the image of memories, lingering like perfume, struck us as a gentle way of getting to the heart, through the sense of smell and taste. Haunting conveys the drama of realizing it’s not just others who have left a mark on us, as we have likely left marks on them too.
“The electronic arrangements include low-fi sample sequences inspired by bands like Boy Harsher and Twitch-era Ministry. We wanted bass and drums to drive the song relentlessly forward toward the sax solo at the end making a monophonic plea as if arriving just in time for the exorcism. The video was shot between a farm in eastern Washington and a building in Seattle known for paranormal activity.”
The band have released eight highly acclaimed albums and EPs so far, and they have also collaborated with some notable producers and artists. Their music has always been well-received in colleges, and their songs have been frequently aired on alternative radio. They have also been featured in KEXP with multiple podcasts and regional airplay.
