Chicago-based velvet-grunge space rock act Lavisher are sharing their new song and music video “Sultry” from their upcoming album Aligned & Vital.

Founding member Gavin Cushman III breaks down the inspiration behind the vision, inception, and execution of the video:
“’Sultry’ is a personal torment fever dream. It’s been on the back burner growing up slowly for a while, and it finally all came together in time for this album. It’s my personal favorite from the new album, so I wanted it to get a video first!
“The video was a collaboration between Sarah Giroux, Andrew Melzer, and myself. When we had our first meeting, I told them that while writing the lyrics and melodies for ‘Sultry,’ I was driving in Chicago along the lake, late on a warm summer night in the rain (smoking quite heavily). So every time I hear ‘Sultry,’ that’s what I picture, and I thought we should incorporate me driving and build from there.
“They went on to capture original footage of driving through downtown and up Lakeshore Drive by strapping a camera to the back of their car, to later be used for projection. Dozens of character ideas were then pitched and we whittled it down to which ones seemed ,best,’ haha.
“After weeks of searching for a classic car and not being able to secure one, we had fantastical stroke of luck! As I was stopping by a client’s house to put up a paint sample (I paint houses for a living), he pulled up to meet me in this beautiful burnt orange ‘66 Mustang, and I was like, ‘What is this !?'”
I asked him if he knew any friends who could rent me a classic car for a day, and he said, ‘You just want to use this one?’ I said, ‘that would be incredible!’ So thanks, Scott, for trusting me with your baby!!!”
“After a shit-ton of planning, it was pretty magical to see so many friends come together on the same night to make something so fun in just a few hours. It was an unforgettable experience. It pairs beautifully with the song, and it’s fun to watch!
“P.S. I do want to mention that I’ve been a non-smoker for almost three years—those were fake-ass Hollywood cigarettes! Cheers! (Too many people to thank—They’re in the credits of the video.)”
