Video Premiere: Lozenge – ‘Interloper’

Lozenge

Leeds, U.K.-based nu-gaze act Lozenge are catching fire with their unique shoegaze style. With their fuzzy guitars over a muscular rhythm section and whisper-soft vocals, they’re part of the recent modern wave of shoegaze acts bringing about a resurgence in the sound. The band consists of Joe Collinson (vocals, guitars), Jacob Marston (drums, ex-Dead Naked Hippies), and James Heywood (bass).

Today, Lozenge are unveiling the video for their latest single “Interloper,” the first of four singles that the band plan to release in the first half of 2024.

“Interloper is written about going somewhere, half-knowing a few people, and feeling totally alienated,” explain the band about the new song. “It’s informed by mid-twenties anxiety, where everyone somehow knows more than you, and by the wild up-and-down unease that can occur when meeting people.
“I remember a few years ago going to a bar to join some people I kind of knew and feeling totally out of my depth and totally inadequate. My anxiety spiked, and I think I left pretty quickly. I guess the song is about the thoughts that went through my head as I walked back to my car.”
The lo-fi video utilizes the glitchiness of analog video to set a mood with echoes of the mid-90s with its solid wall of fuzzy sound. The melodies are beautiful, and the guitars are heavy on this track, so check it out below.
