Brooklyn-based garage rockers Miranda and the Beat—made up of Miranda Zipse (Lead Vocals and Guitar), Dylan Fernandez (Farfisa and guitar), and Alvin Jackson (bass)—have relocated themselves to the swamps of New Orleans ahead of their newest album Can’t Take It, which was itself recorded in King Khan’s Moon Studios Rock ‘n’ Roll Vortex in a remote village on the German countryside. The result is an album that combines the best of punk rock with R&B, edgy sci-fi flavors, and an epic talent for balladry.
Today, they’re debuting their latest video for a track off their upcoming album, “Manipulate Me.” “This song was probably the most fun to write for the album,” explains frontwoman Miranda Zipse about the new track. “We were all in King Khan’s studio getting wine drunk and spitballing lines back and forth. We pretty much spent the whole time rolling on the floor dying of laughter, which ended up being very therapeutic and what we needed to do at the time. This song’s about some real shit, and it felt really good to get it out of our system in the form of an absolute fuckin’ banger. Moral of the story: Always be a weirdo, but never be a manipulative creep.”
With a rip-roaring classic punk energy and a viscerally in-your-face video, this is bound to end up as one of your new favorite punk tracks of 2024. The video proves that you can take a punk band out of the city, but you can’t take the city of a bunch of Brooklyn punks. Check out the video below.
