Video Premiere: Moraine – ‘Pensive’

Moraine

Baltimore-based alt-rock quartet Moraine were formed in 2022 from ex-members of Solitary Set, Still Mountains, and Old Victrola. Combining heavy, grungy guitars with post-hardcore vocals, Moraine deliver a cathartic sonic gut punch. Their debut single “Life in This Haunted House” garnered the attention of Chicago label Mind Over Matter Records who will be putting out the band’s debut full-length Design Build Maintain, which comes out later this summer with pre-orders going live today.

Today, the band are debuting the video for their first single off the new album, a dark, post-grunge tune called “Pensive” which tackles the hard-hitting issue of gun violence in America. With an infectious rhythm and powerfully emotional vocals, this track is a hard rocking banger that takes a hard look at an important societal crisis.

“With ‘Pensive,’ we explore the devastating impact of gun violence and the frequency of shootings that have afflicted our nation in recent years,” explains guitarist and vocalist Jason Brohm. “The song is a call to action, urging us to reflect on what measures we are taking to address this grave issue. The video narrates the experience of someone pushed to their breaking point, either by job loss or immense frustration. As they ponder a violent response, the sight of a family passing by stirs a moment of hesitation, leading them to rethink their decision.”

The video helps us see the turmoil in the eyes of a potential shooter, creating a character that’s sympathetic while also serving as a cautionary tale. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the urgent single. Check out the video below.
