Fayetteville, North Carolina’s emo darlings Rookie of the Year are back. Boasting a career full of international tours, TV and film placements, and over 200,000 records sold, the band have a lot to be proud of. Since the release of their last full-length LP, Canova Presents: The Goodnight Moon Part II, they took a break for a few years and recently returned in 2017 for a comeback tour and have since released a string of singles and a covers EP.
Just last month, they finally put out their latest release, WTF, on streaming platforms, with physical copies due out on January 17 from Punkerton Records. Full of collaborations with other pop and emo artists including Emarosa, Makeout, Shontelle, Ryan Cabrera, Wesley Stromberg (Emblem3), and Matthew Thiessen of Relient K, the album is not only star-studded, but also deeply relatable.
Today, the band are debuting the video for their single “Many Mistakes” featuring Shontelle, which appears on WTF. Slickly produced and packed with raw emotion, “Many Mistakes” is a modern emo classic that taps into the best trends in pop music.
“We’re very excited about the new album,” explains ROTY frontman Ryan Dunson. “There’s a notable feature on nearly every track. When we finished recording the song “Many Mistakes,” we felt that a strong female voice would help make the song even more memorable. Shontelle has been a good friend of the Rookie camp for a while now, and the idea of having her on the track organically came up one night. We sent it over to her, and she loved it. We filmed the video for the song in and around Manhattan with a talented young director named Jonny Servais. There are some cool easter eggs hidden in the video, one being the lead singer of Fuel as the main story line actor. Many Mistakes is the ballad you didn’t know you were getting, but you always needed!”
