Brooklyn-based indie punk outfit Sadlands—formed by members of Answering Machine, Choke Up, and Ellen and the Degenerates—is celebrating their signing to Wiretap Records. Now they’re gearing up for the release of their debut LP Try To Have A Little Fun, which is due out later in the fall. Today, the band are debuting the lyric video for the single “Bad Idea,” a spirited pop-punk track with a classic spirit that brings to mind the brightness of ’80s new wave but with a modern sensibility.

“If you’re looking for an excuse to hook up with your ex or kiss your best friend, this song is for you,” says Sadlands’ Jess Lane. “I wrote ‘Bad Idea’ to convince myself it was OK to embrace messy romantic situations. To enjoy doing things my friends wouldn’t approve of and that I can’t explain to my mom. You can have some fun, tell yourself you’re not taking it too seriously, and still think, ‘This is so crazy it just might work.’ That thrill is part of the fun.”
