Video Premiere: San Tropez – ‘Baby Bells’

San Tropez

Started in 2016 when Ralph Nicastro (Wreaths, Aviso Hara, Sparks Fly from a Kiss) started circulating some demos for a new project between some friends, San Tropez really took off when Frank Bridges (Magic Mountain, Duochrome, kiaro skuro) went on social media to post his new black Newark St. Edition Guild Starfire bass with the caption “Who wants to start a shoegaze band?” Soon, there was a band formed with Nicastro, Bridges, and Albie Connelly (Angular Brothers, Stuntcocks, Urchins). Eventually they added Andy Fountas (Magic Mountain, The Border States, Duochrome) on drums and Phil Pirri (Blaa Fugl) on keyboards to round out the lineup.

Today, the band are debuting the video for their new single “Baby Bells,” the second single off their forthcoming album Museum of Modern History, their second album with Mint 400 Records, due out this fall. With a classic sense of grandiose power-pop, “Baby Bells” has a distinctly ’80s vibe as well as a deep-seated sense of nostalgia that makes for a vibrant sonic adventure. The video dives even deeper into that sense of nostalgia with images of the ’50s and ’60s that drive home that same feeling.

“‘Baby Bells’ is our attempt to bottle the feeling of a fading memory—soft, hazy, and just out of reach,” the band explain about the track. It’s a synth pop anthem wrapped in reverb and warmth, meant to feel like a sunset drive through your own nostalgia.”
