Japanese pop-punk rising star Sarina is making waves with her infectious new EP Break Out!!, which came out October 25. Born in Hawaii and raised in Tokyo by a Japanese father and Lebanese mother, Sarina is proving to be a cross-cultural phenomenon with her pop-punk earworms. With relatable themes about personal struggles like feelings of wasted potential and the difficulty of confronting life’s new challenges, her songs are as relatable as they are full of fist-pumping excitement.
Today, Sarina is debuting the video for on of the EP’s most delightful tracks, “Why Am I So Sad?!” With easily relatable themes of emotional anguish and constant depression in a soul-crushing world, the song is an absolute bop with a strong guitar base to make for a true pop-punk gem.
“’Why am I so sad?!’ is an anthem for everyone, especially with the depression season coming up,” explains Sarina about the single, “that sometimes when we’re sad for no discernible reason, the best thing we can do is laugh at it! I love that the song is bratty and even a bit juvenile because, in a way, that’s what makes it free. It gives you an outlet to whine about the thing that’s bothering you—in this case, being sad for no reason. I’m really glad that people are resonating with the song, and I’m so excited for everyone to see the music video! We worked really hard on it, and I’m so proud of how it came out.”
