Video Premiere: Sister Thieves – ‘CRAWL’

Sister Thieves

NYC-based doomy-rock group Sister Thieves were formed in 2017 as a trio, at which point they put out their self-titled EP and started building a local reputation by playing extensively around their home city. Like with most groups, the pandemic put a sudden halt to things, but in 2023, they reformed as a duo to put together their debut LP Crawl, which came out in October 2024.

Today, Sister Thieves are debuting the video for the album’s title track, “Crawl,” directed by Brooklyn-based director King Z. The song is a doomy, drone of slow, heavy, yet melodic rock carried by the haunting femme vocals that create something so eerie you can feel it in your bones. The viscerally disturbing video is full of striking imagery that will stick with you long after the video is over.

“The lyrics for this song, which are about my chronic struggle with depression, were written back when we first formed the band in 2017 but we didn’t find the right melody until the pandemic when Aaron first sent the track and I recorded the vocals on a shitty set of earbuds,” says vocalist Steph.

Her counterpart in the band, Aaron, says, “We had my friend Mark Petaccia record the drums in his studio in Nashville during the pandemic and then we finally finished the track when Steph and I regrouped to make the album.”
