Video Premiere: Strange Lot – ‘Funny Sounds’

Ahead of the release of their next full-length, Funny Sounds, Strange Lot are sharing the video for the title track. Check it out right here at New Noise.

Dominic Mena and Tim Lormor formed the band back in 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona, and it didn’t take long for listeners to take notice. Their first show was an NPR Tiny Desk session, and their first full-length, 2015’s Another Mind, reached #73 in the CMJ Top 200. The Phoenix New Times also named it one of the 20 Best Records of the year.

Strange Lot released their sophomore album, Gods & Clods, in 2017. By that time, they were sharing the stage with artists like The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Kikagaku Moyo, Night Beats, A Place to Bury Strangers, and many more. In 2019, they shifted gears and joined the Austin music scene.

Luis Valerio also joined the band on bass, and the trio signed with Mas Music Records in December 2019.

Funny Sounds blends the experimental psyche of Deerhunter and Broadcast with the fuzzy grooves of Thee Oh Sees, along with a hefty helping of stylings reminiscent of Brian Jonestown Massacre.

A quote from the band dives further into the new video for “Funny Sounds”:

“I filmed the video on an old Panasonic VHS recorder since the format lends to the overall dreamy vibe and theme of nostalgia the tune has. Footage was shot over the period of a month and shows the band working on the record at my home studio in Texas. The idea was to give a glimpse into who we are and share a ‘behind the scenes’ of how we work in our natural environment.”
