Video Premiere: Structure Sounds – ‘Back to Black’ (Amy Winehouse Cover)

Structure Sounds

Structure Sounds are one of many great bands to hail from my beloved home stomping grounds of Providence, Rhode Island. With their rollicking punk sound, they’re putting out a covers EP on September 19 on Wiretap Records called Stolen Sounds, which features a wide variety of covers from everyone from classic punk bands like Bad Religion and Oscar to popular artists like Amy Winehouse and The Weeknd.

Today, they’re debuting the video for their cover of Amy Winehouse’s classic pop tune “Back to Black.” Adding a really fun punk style to the song, you’d think that this was an original. That coupled with the video full of spooky imagery from old black and white films, and you’ve got one hell of a good time.

“This was easily the most fun and challenging song we have taken on,” explains Structure Sounds’ Sean Patrick Carney. “It would be impossible to replicate the style and delivery of Amy Winehouse’s voice, but I feel we brought something new out of her influence. The song’s angst and longing mixed with piss and vinegar fits our sound like a glove.”
