Video Premiere: Superintendo – ‘Inhaling Confetti’

Superintendo

North Carolina’s Superintendo describe themselves as a “genre-curious” punk band, known to flirt with everything from ska to dub to bossa nova to jazz to prog, making for a hell of a unique punk sound. Normally I don’t quote press releases while writing premieres, but this is too funny not to quote:

“Superinendo formed in 2023 when drummer Mike said he had a burning, yearning desire to have Luke (guitars and vocals) make his voice-memo songs good(er) and more better. Later bassist Daniel was there. Now they are three. They are so strong. Some of the best people have said lookit how strong they are. They fit together into one huge robot person with Luke as the head, Daniel being the torso, and Mike as the fast-running legs. Arms coming 2026.”

If that doesn’t make you want to check out this band, I really don’t know what’s wrong with you. And now, they’ve joined the Punkerton Records roster, and they’re ready to celebrate with some confetti.

Today, the band are debuting their video for their new single “Inhaling Confetti,” a weird combination of prog, math rock, and sugary pop-punk that inexplicably congeals into a coherent whole that is really something special. The video perfectly captures all the different angles of this song together for a perfect visual representation of the track.

“I almost dropped this song from the album because I continually re-wrote it and wasn’t happy with it,” says frontman Luke West about the track. “I didn’t know what I was doing or what the song was even trying to be about until the final re-writes, which included the 6/8 breakdown and guitar variations on the intro theme.”

“’Inhaling Confetti’ is about what it feels like to make music,” he continues. “It’s like the stages of grief. I went through all of them while writing this song in response to writing the song.”
