Video Premiere: The Problem With Kids Today – ‘Speed Freak’

The Problem With Kids Today from New Haven, CT blend punk, power pop, and just good, old-fashioned, down and dirty rock ‘n’ roll. The trio have been around since 2020 and have already racked up some nice accolades including a mention in a Pitchfork article about Verso Studios and becoming one of the favorite local bands of Chris Frantz from The Talking Heads and The Tom Tom Club.

Their debut album Born to Rock is due out on February 9 and, today, they’re debuting their latest video for their song “Speed Freak.” The classic rock ‘n’ roll anthem is a tribute to motorcycles and good times, lightly playing with some classic rock music conventions. That vibe is further communicated in the low-budget campy video that features the trio green-screened onto their bikes for some out-of-this-world adventures.

“‘Speed Freak’ by The Problem With Kids Today takes the listener on a wild hog night ride through a cartoon city of chrome and classic rock,” says frontman Tate Brooks about the new single. “Silas said write a song about a motorcycle, so we did! You’ll be hearing the riff all day long as you day-dream at the office like a fight clubber muttering under your breath: ‘Come on let’s go for a ride, Get on the back of my bike. Vincent Black Lightnin’ just right, You and I we ride into the night!’”

Check out the video, filmed and edited by Connor Rog at Kicker Pictures, below.
