Video Premiere: The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs – ‘Cherry Bomb’ feat. Cherie Currie

Legendary rock ‘n’ rollers The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs are gearing up for the September release of their two-CD cover collection, All The Covers (And More), and ahead of the action, they’re sharing their rendition of the iconic “Cherry Bomb” by The Runaways. The cover also features the one and only Cherie Currie.

Give the band’s take a listen—It’s premiering right here at New Noise.

The collection wrangles every cover song the band has recorded over their 25-year career, featuring a slew of guest stars in addition to Currie, including Wayne Kramer (MC5), Sylvain Sylvain (New York Dolls), Jimmy Zero (Dead Boys), Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman), Bryan Small (The Hangmen), Jeff Dahl (Angry Samoans), and many more.

Currie herself is featured on lead vocals for the “Cherry Bomb” cover. It was originally issued at a seven-inch vinyl single in 1998. The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs started up back in 1995, going strong for a decade before taking another decade hiatus until 2014, when they hit the road to promote their “Escape From ew York City/Fuck the Future” seven-inch vinyl single.

The collection’s release is the first of several Cheetahs-related projects on Rum Bar Records.

As the band share their rendition of “Cherry Bomb,” lead vocalist and guitarist Frank Meyer expands:

“When the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs started out in 1995, one of the first songs we ever played in our first rehearsal was ‘Cherry Bomb.’ Soon alter, we went and saw Cherie and Sandy West perform at a club and asked her for to sign our Runaways albums. That’s what nerdy super-fans of hers were are. She came to see one of our first gigs a week later and jumped onstage to sing ‘Cherry Bomb,’ and that really kick started our whole career. Then we recorded our punked-up version of it with Cherie signing for a vinyl single. The fine folks at Rum Bar Records are re-releasing that single as part of a two-CD collection of all the covers we ever recorded—All The Covers (And More)—and we just couldn’t be happier.”

Currie herself also adds her insight on The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs’ version of the iconic track and the crew as a whole:

“I love the Cheetahs version of ‘Cherry Bomb.’ I met Frank and Dino early on, liked them from the start, and have stayed friends ever since. Frank Meyer has turned me on to so many memorable gigs, sessions, and people during our three decades of friendship. He is an exceptional player, performer, singer, and song writer. A selfless human being that I am so proud to call one of my very best friends!”
