Denver-based two-piece metal band Thrillrot are growing their reputation with their energetic sound. With their thunderous drum beats and blistering guitars, the band encapsulate everything metal is with an economy of band members. The band’s self-titled debut LP is organized around Peter Wessel Zapffe’s dark essay The Last Messiah and features themes of identity, violence, memory and torment to create an emotionally packed metal album. Thrillrot drops October 17 via Lost Future Records.
Today, Thrillrot are debuting their video for the song “The Law” off the upcoming debut LP. A furious anthem full of sudden tempo changes and unbridled fury, “The Law” is an absolute metal rager. The sports-themed video provides an epic visual representation that only enhances the already powerful track.
“The Law is the sound of a pain worth feeling,” says guitarist and vocalist Noah Khorey. “In the theme of the album, The Last Messiah is a prophet who argues that humanity’s greatest tragedy is its self-awareness. He believes that consciousness is a flaw in our nature, only deepening our suffering as we wander the Earth. But what about art, love, music, family, empathy … Is some pain not worth feeling if it leads to expression?
“This album was delayed because during recording, I dealt with a hemorrhage on one of my vocal cords,” Khorey continues. “It was really a bummer to have to take a step back, it felt like I was letting everyone down. But that’s when it hits you—the sound of the music, as I finally was able to finish it, became my own justification for why The Last Messiah is wrong. For years, I’ve been shouting into microphones, trying to express some sense of purpose. And that, like many things, can take its toll. But it meant something to me. And if it means something to you, that’s something we will always share.
“A lot of life is pain. Suffering is all around us. But we find our own reasons to live. So the people rise up to kill The Last Messiah, like so many prophets before him, rejecting his call for surrender and instead choosing to create, experiece and accept their own end.”
