Salt Lake City pop punk trio Wicked Bears are sharing their first single and video, “The Darkness,” from their upcoming album, Underwater. Check it out right here at New Noise.
Wicked Bears—Casey Keele, Nick Fleming, and Jason Bohman—approach their brand of punk with a sense of ease. Their music still channels some of the sounds of the past in all the right ways, but the band truly shine through their quality songwriting and composition, perfectly balancing catchiness with cleverness.
The band released their debut album, Turning Out, in 2017 and jumped on the Wiretap Records roster this year. Underwater is set for release in spring 2023.
Casey Keele chats more about the new track:
“One time after a bad breakup I listened to ‘The Body of An American’ by The Pogues for like, a week. Nothing but that song on the drive to work, driving home, getting ready for bed, whenever. That song got me through it. It was sad when I eventually had to listen to a different song. I’m not sure if that’s a healthy way to deal with pain, but whatever, I needed to get through it. ‘The Darkness’ seems like it’s about something like that.”
