Durham, North Carolina punk act Worthington’s Law started in 2020 when Nick Faber met Scotty Sandwich and the pair bonded over their love of ska and punk, which led to them recording their own tongue-in-cheek style of punk at Scotty’s recording studio The Sandwich Shoppe. Seeking to replicate the sound of the EpiFat bands they grew up listening to, they’ve created a particularly infectious brand of punk.
On December 4, Worthington’s Law is putting out a split with their fellow North Carolina cheeky punks The Lousy Hitchhikers on their own Feral Hive Records. Today, with Halloween just around the corner, Worthington’s Law is premiering the lyric video for the first single off the split “I Saw a Ghost.”
“‘I Saw a Ghost’ is a spooky track based on a true story of a possible ghost sighting I had in my 20s,” explains Faber. “I don’t actually believe in ghosts, but my friend and I swear we saw one. I’ve been telling that story for years, laughing at the contradiction of seeing yet not believing. And now I can just tell people to listen to the song, or better yet, watch the video for a stunningly accurate recreation.”
The added synths in this song give a touch of spooky, ghostly energy to a song that’s a funny take on the supernatural, making for a song that takes things as seriously as you would expect a mid-90s punk act to take things. If this was playing in the background of those ghost hunter shows instead of that overly ominous music, those shows would be a lot more fun to watch. Check out the lyric video below.
