The punk world was absolutely rocked by the tragic and sudden death of Love Equals Death frontman Chon Travis on August 11 of this year while the band was on their European tour. With the band and fanbase grieving, a lot of plans had to be put on the back burner.
The video for the latest single off the band’s 2022 album Gravity and Grace, called “3420,” was scheduled to be released on Friday August 16, but following the band’s tragic loss, the video debut was put on hold. Since Love Equals Death was founded on Halloween in 2003, the band thought it fitting to finally release the video for “3420” yesterday in honor of their 21st anniversary.
Today, we’re spotlighting what will now be the final video from Love Equals Death. “3420” is a classic punk song reminiscent of the ’90s and early 2000s, the era that Love Equals Death was born out of. A powerful rock anthem with a beautiful melody, it’s a reminder of why this band, and Travis in particular, were so beloved. Seeing Travis in the video after his untimely death adds a dimension of sadness to the video that was never intended, but that emotion works with the powerful emotion and nostalgic melody of the song, making this video a perfect tribute to a great punk frontman.
