Video Spotlight: Magua – ‘Laser’

Magua

Started in 2007 as a trio, Ukraine’s Magua have earned a reputation in their home country for a bizarre yet exciting mix of breakbeat, punk, electronic, hardcore, grunge, folk, and funk. In 2016, they released their debut album AGATA and their style and sound has been evolving ever since. In 2018, it became a solo project, but that didn’t stop Magua from continuing to blaze a trail in the Ukrainian music scene.

Today, we’re debuting the video for Magua’s latest single, “Laser.” With a frenetic bass, aggressive beats and just some random screaming, “Laser” is packed with extreme energy but then throws a wild curve ball when the song abruptly switches to a more laid-back rap style. The video fully captures the chaotic nature of the song with its distorted, negative-image and superimposed images that create a sense of anarchistic power. “High hopes are marked by a laser…” the artist says, cryptically describing the song.
