Video Spotlight: Richard Carlson – ‘Why Make Disco So Dark?’

Ahead of their upcoming debut album, Mother’s Intuition, out October 21, Richard Carlson Band have shared their new video, “Why Make Disco So Dark?” You can take a look and listen right here at New Noise.

They’ve seen a number of changes since releasing their first single, including lineup shifts and a move to another city, though Richard Carlson Band’s signature sound and core songwriting team of Cadman and Carrick remains intact.

“Why Make Disco So Dark” appears on the upcoming LP, alongside other previously released singles, “Langham’s Lies” and “No Smooth.”

The album’s racks retain the band’s signature style, lurching mid-tempo menace, with brooding spoken vocals, persistent bass riffs, and unsettling and droning synths witnessed on previous singles. Though, the 40-minute project also sees Richard Carlson Band playing with and continuing to develop their sound.

Even the most experimental cuts on the album retain darkly humorous lyrics and surprisingly catchy choruses.

The band are also set to play a handful of shows to celebrate the album’s release. Check out those dates below:

Thursday, October 20 – Sheffield – The Washington
Friday, October 21 – Manchester – Retro Bar
Monday, October 24 – London – Shacklewell Arms
Leeds – TBA
Ipswich – TBA
