These UK post-punks made a sizable dent with their debut album, and here they extend deeper into electronica with synth effects to their ’80s influences. A listen as dark as the cover art hints at, though they may take their name from a Kraftwerk album, these 5 guys have more in common with Ian Curtis and Robert Smith, blending alt-rock, goth-rock and New Wave into an emotive, harrowing, and, at times, especially with the occasional strings, a soothing journey into driving, visceral melancholy. If outfits like New Order, Sisters of Mercy and Joy Division had any influence on your life, you really can’t justify not making room for this one in your collection.
