What can I say, I’m a sucker for death metal, hell, I’m a sucker for anything brutal and ass kicking which this record most certainly does. Dismember is a five song, 21 minute opus of pure, blood letting, violence. Just the way I like it. Deathmarch is Quint Meerbeek on guitars (drummer for Bodyfarm), Dirk Willems on vocals, Olle Oele on drums (ex-Funeral Whore) and Walter Van Kalsbeek on bass (Cavitation, ex-Baatezu, ex-Pleurisy).

Deathmarch has been around since 2016, haling from the city of Amersfoort and damn committed to bringing back the true sound and spirit of death metal in the vein of Entombed, Dismember, Grave, Autopsy, Baphomet, Asphyx, and Gorefestand to name but a few. And that’s exactly the vibe that “Dismember” has captured. Allow me to confirm that these guys nailed that classic sound to a tee on this record. And, hell, they even went beyond on that, if I can be honest. Take the first song “Gastorture,” which is full on elbow to the face, circle pit destruction at it’s finest, and one hell of a great choice to start “Dismember” off with. It has a raw, underground intensity which really took me back to the early days of this genre, dare I say with a slight punk rock feel to it?

I kind of get an early Cannibal Corpse / Six Feet Under vibe on this record too, especially with “Gastorture” which we’ve been talking about. And that’s a compliment because I haven’t been a fan of what either one of these two bands have been doing for awhile. Deathmarch gets “it” and that’s where it gets weird with me when a band like Deathmarch can do Cannibal Corpse better than the actual band can do their own sound.

Here’s my one and only complaint with this record. It’s five songs. I want more. “War Machine,” “Autopsy with a Chainsaw,” “Bayonet Frenzy” and “Death Marches On” are too good for just an EP. This band needs to rock a full length and hit the road and tour like madmen behind it.

I really dig the various metal sounds coming out of Europe these days and the indie labels who have the wherewithal and future sight to throw some backing behind these bands to put the music out. “Dismember” is some seriously primal, raw death metal that needs to be heard and played on every college station and internet radio show bringing metal to the masses today. Check ‘em out, you won’t be disappointed. Deathmarch is a seriously heavy band that needs your attention. Thank god true metal is alive and well.
