Dex Romweber
Carrboro
(Bloodshot Records)

There exists a whole lot of reasons to listen to Dex Romweber, other than Jack White’s praise. On this solo outing, Romweber rarely sits still for more than a few minutes in a specific genre, as he both fiercely and sophisticatedly revolves around jazz instrumentals, garage rock anthems, and raw surf/rockabilly fun. While some tracks shuffle with a retro feel that could soundtrack the train dodge in Stand By Me, Romweber also accompanies the piano for Sinatra-esque lounge singing, but will certainly appeal to the rugged alt-country crowd, too. Carrboro would fit well on rotation at any punk bar, country saloon or even formal event, and much like everything he’s been a part of (Flat Duo Jets), there is exactly zero filler here.
