Ten albums in, and stoner rock legends Monster Magnet haven’t missed a single beat in their own tripped-out world.
Mindfucker expands the band’s catalog the only way Dave Wyndorf and company truly know how, complete with hypnotic choruses and buzzing guitar riffs that instantly take one back to the days of lava lamps and black light posters. The title track itself is catchy enough, but it’s songs like “I’m God” and “All Day Midnight” that echo of the band’s Superjude days (i.e. their peak) best.
It’s disappointing just how much the mainstream rock world has all but forgotten about these guys (yet continue to embrace countless mediocre acts); they truly don’t know what they’re missing. Monster Magnet may not be for everyone’s tastes, but for those who get them, Mindfucker is a trip definitely worth taking.
