Not too many bands can say that they’ve existed for 25+ years, and with all original members at that.

This time with an all-star cast from Nebraska including Simon Joyner, Refrigerator’s 11th LP builds sounds around Allen Callaci’s soulful, somber voice with Americana-style folk balladry, waltz moments, and a rustic quality that aches with cellos, violas, and a Wurlitzer.

Generally stripped back, though there are occasional moments of louder, crunchy guitar, much of this runs along the lines of Neil Young or Leonard Cohen’s hushed beauty, and is just as timeless, too. It’s amazing that Refrigerator have remained so obscure for nearly 30 years now, as this is some well crafted, slow burning magic.
