Cataclysmos, the first solo record by Ryne Ziemba, will be coming out soon via Moon Bus records. This album is a psych rock record that leaves nothing to be desired.

“After years of riding freight trains around the U.S., Ryne Ziemba landed in New York City and spent a few years supporting other songwriters and bands in the Brooklyn music scene as a lead guitar and synth player,” their press release explains “It wasn’t long before he started experimenting with DIY production and landed on the ragged, sweaty, swaggered style evocative of his mother swamp, Florida, for his debut e.p., Dirty Sunset #1.

While this is only the debut record from Ziemba, the years of traveling and soaking up Americana definitely show through here. This s some of the most catchy, rocking, and also psychedelic and laid-back records to come out in a while. It does a perfect job of bridging the gap between indie, garage rock and psych rock. He clearly cut his teeth on the first record and is just hitting his stride with this one.

With Dirty Sunset #1, Ziemba seeks to conjure the musical stylings of the ghosts of boisterous garage rock and laid-back psychedelia in a whirlwind of songs that promise to leave the listener wanting more.

While primarily a singer and guitar player, Ziemba wrote all the parts for Dirty Sunset #1 and then recorded session musicians such as Pill’s Ben Jaffe (on saxophone) to realize his musical vision. He even built a vocal booth out of scrap wood in the back of his Bushwick apartment. This attention to detail and DIY sound really shows through in the music, and is present on this newer release as well.
