The moniker of D.C. musician Matt Dowling, who’s already spent time playing in Deleted Scenes, The Effects, Paperhaus, and Joy Buttons, this first album combines pieces of electro-pop, trap, and rock into a groove heavy affair while Dowling’s falsetto vocals steer the ship.

With prominent bass lines and dark beats everywhere (the latter handled by Benjamin Schurr), it’s a quirky and ominous outing where forceful rhythms collide with a minimalist approach, while post-punk and New Wave influences are always near and help illuminate the quality of the album.

“You’ve Gone Away” alone is worth the price of admission and should win over any New Order fan.
