Album Review: Alan Doyle – “So Let’s Go”

Alan Doyle
So Let’s Go
(Skinner’s Hill)

The frontman for Newfoundland’s much revered Great Big Sea, Doyle’s sophomore solo disc is another collection of catchy folk-rock that utilizes hand clapping and whistling in ways that enhance the listening experience. Though plenty of acoustic instruments appear alongside layered vocals, Doyle turns the volume and tempo down on a few tender ballads that help illuminate his strong voice. Also an actor and author, Doyle’s a household name in Canada, and it’s likely this album is only going to widen that fame. (Tom Haugen)
