Allegaeon have cultivated and captivated audiences and fans since the early 2000s. Building their legacy through grit, dedication, and true-to-the-bone authenticity, they’ve done it again. Their latest release is a beast of an album, faster, more symphonic, and wilder than ever.
As of April 4, the technical death metal outfit Allegaeon will unleash their new full-length, The Ossuary Lens, via Metal Blade Records. Hailing from Fort Collins, Colorado, they have managed to replace a singer, conquer, and come up with a whole new album and get their dedicated asses back on the road. I’m sure this took a lot of work and strategizing, and they kicked ass. This new album is even more riveting than previous works, slicing in every metal bone in your body. These gents have about two decades under their belts roaming the planet with earth-shattering drive and unyielding relentlessness. The years of writing and experience are apparent on their latest record.
Their latest album carries heavy blows to the throat, with mind-blowing blastbeats and guttural vocals for days. ” Refraction” begins this album with a slow-guitar strumming, beautiful intro into this extremely intricate masterpiece. ” Chaos Theory” are so technical, watching them live would make your head spin to this song. ” Driftwood” is haunting and beautiful at the same time.

“Dies Irae” has a magnificent sound as it explodes into the song. ” The Swarm” video is fantastic as a bar brawl goes really bad. It’s fast and pure chaos. ” Carried By Delusion” carries powerful riffs and memorable vocals. ” Dark Matter Dynamics” gets rhythmic with acoustic jamming and then goes into a fast beat with growls. “Imperial ” is fast and immersed in that deep ambient death metal. ” Wake Circling Above” and ” Scythe” show how these gents can take all metal, blend it up, and create such a great metal landscape with imagery to all of their lyrics.
Of the album’s first single, “Driftwood,” Burgess elaborates, “This song holds a special place in Allegaeon history, honestly. This piece was written for Apoptosis by our then-brand-new bassist Booboo. In its original form, it was so tech death; I don’t think we knew how to incorporate it into the Allegaeon sound when he submitted it. Fast-forward six years and, as we were kicking around ideas for this album, I remembered the piece and asked Booboo if he wouldn’t mind if I took a crack at possibly rearranging its format a little smoother into the Allegaeon sound. I just wanted there to be a little bit more repetition of some parts. The song turned out amazing. Always goes to show—ever throw out anything, as you never know when it’ll come back.”
