Album Review: Various Artists – “It’s A Bomber”

It’s A Bomber [Compilation]
(Bomber Music)

Bomber Music, based out of the UK, have put together a nice compilation here to show off their artists. The fourteen track collection, entitled It’s A Bomber, features mostly ska type bands, but there’s also a few reggae and punk artists in the mix as well. None of them fail to deliver, luckily, making for a mix that you’ll actually want to play completely through without using the skip-ahead. The replay value is also moderately high, especially for a mix.

Jaya the Cat kicks things off with “Come the Drums,” a catchy song featuring a strong beat and memorable chorus. Though the track does go down as an early favorite, it doesn’t quite make the top three. Those would include the contributions of Smokey Bastard (“Wasteland”), Versus You (“When It All Goes Down”), and The Skints (“Up Against the Wall”). These three tracks are particularly excellent, and will call back the listener back regularly. Then there’s Sorry & the Sinatras, The Forum Walters, and 7 Day Conspiracy to consider, as they’ve just barely missed making that top tier of golden boys.

If you like ska and punk, It’s A Bomber is definitely worth checking out. Not only does it feature many potentially great bands, but most of these guys probably haven’t been discovered by Americans yet. (Thomas Lehane)
