Though they live in Nashville now, the 6 members of Banditos bring their formative southern influences with them in the form of rowdy roots rock and blues moments. A trio of vocalists divide up the songs, with Mary Beth Richardson’s pipes being smooth and soulful, while Corey Parsons and Stephen Pierce bring the gritty angle. The band rarely sit still long enough to be defined, as they alternate between uproarious garage rock, rustic Americana and instrumentation that brings a punk spirit into banjos and even a kazoo heavy tune (I’m not kidding). Banditos combine all the best elements of timeless, rugged country rock and blistering bar rock like The Replacements into something exciting and atypical. (Tom Haugen)
