Album Review: Darkness Falls – “Dance And Cry”

Darkness Falls
Dance And Cry
(HFN)

Well done goth-pop that will appease any fan of Joy Division, The Cure or The Jesus And Mary Chain, Josephine Philip and Ina Lindgreen’s sophomore album is an exercise in minimalism where one can dance, brood or find themselves hypnotized in a haze of distorted guitars and melodic pop that’s both haunting and melancholic. It’s as dramatic as it is exquisitely layered, and aptly titled as it touches on some of the most fundamental emotions of the human experience while also making you want to move.

The duo have already amassed a sizable following their home of Denmark, and if this album gets to enough ears it’s likely to have the same effect in The States. (Tom Haugen)
