Album Review: Fenix TX – ‘CRE.EP’

Fenix TX
CRE.EP
(Cyber Tracks)

It’s been a long time since we last heard Fenix TX, but like Boys Night Out earlier this year, they are making a return via an under-your-nose EP release. CRE.EP makes it sound like no time has passed at all really; the songs are full of soaring punk energy, coupled with a sense of nostalgic writing style popular in the early 2000s scene. “Spooky Action At A Distance” feels like a riding anthem, “Church and State” is nothing but swagger and ooze, “Bending Over Backwards” is razor-sharp angst applause, and “Get Loose” cries out like a siren song. The closing track, “I Don’t Know What To Say”, is the only one that doesn’t feel as strong as it could have been. Otherwise, CRE.EP is a grand return from a band sure to bring up found memories of teen rebellion. Let’s hope they just don’t stop with a sly EP and not take it further in the coming year.
