Album Review: Fitz & The Tantrums – Self-Titled

Fitz & The Tantrums - Self Titled

Fitz & The Tantrums
Self-Titled
(Elektra)

The third album from these Los Angeles sensations strips back the R&B influences of their early material, as they embrace New Wave tendencies into their enthusiastic indie-pop stylings. Packed full of beats, synth and pop friendly vocals from Michael Fitzpatrick and company, it’s a polished affair with ample hooks and energy, and is built with the same foundation that soundtracks much of today’s television and radio. If you’re looking for an album akin to their previous neo-soul hallmark, well, you’re not going to find that here. But if you like to see a band spread their wings and try on different sounds, dive right in.
