Album Review: Max Kala – “Amplification & Super Regeneration”

Max Kala
Amplification & Super Regeneration
(Self-Released)

Inland Empire (well, near it anyway) post-hardcore but not in the usual sense of the word, this quartet add a tense, blistering, and self-described ‘heavy realism’ to the equation. The band’s punk, metal and even ’70s rock influences shine through in their carefully crafted songs, and though at times it seems so close to erupting into furious noise, they keep things cautiously and skillfully tight. This often reminded me of a ’90s John Reis project on steroids- yup, it’s that good. (Tom Haugen)
